For everyone who pledged for this, I got my link to the Pledge Manager over the weekend. You have about 7 more days to take care of this.
Ewookie, make sure you received your link via email - they are all personalized, so you will need to go to the link provided in the email.
I hope you hold onto these, and enjoy them! I am very excited. As I say, the human -sized figs will be out of scale, but over half of them will work. The others I'll use for painting technique experiments, maybe gifts (if they look really bad!)

thanks! i got my link and finalized my order Friday. it was really nice because i thought i had missed my opportunity to do a 'trade-in' on the Vampire Level Sophie. using the link to do the trade-in was a little tricky but warned and said as much in the email so i tinkered until i figured it out before 'locking in'.
i'm waiting to hold them in my hand before i decide what i will do with them. i can't remember and not sure i ever really knew...scale: will the 'human-sized' figs be too small or too large in your opinion?

They will be too large to match up with my thousands of old lead dudes. The monsters will work no problem, but most of the humans will be 25% taller than what i have. As outlined somewhere on this site, the old guys are true 25 mm while the newer figures are about 30-32mm.
This is OK, as ther will be enough humans (and elves and dwarves) to form their own playable contingent, should take some guys on the road they'll fit the bill.

sorry bout being lazy before. it was actually earlier in this thread where we had that discussion...i just didn't remember at the time.
anyways, i currently plan to keep them, maybe even paint them...if for no other reason than to use them for a cool, fantasy-themed chess set. that is actually the only reason i bought the star wars minis that i have. i came up with 2 different sets, one Clone Wars themed and one Original Trilogy themed.

You will be waiting a bit longer, my friend. The figures are not going to ship until March. Sorry, thought you saw that - they said that at the beginning, and it is on the kickstarter page. Maybe you turned off your updates too soon! I am eager, but they will show up around my birthday so it is cool with me.

Actually, you are right. The Sophie models (metal) are shipping this month. I traded mine in for more plastic.
Also, the paints were going to ship this month, but there was triple the demand that they had expected, so they will be shipping the paint bottles out later, too.

I know I won't be early in line, since I got paints, the case, and a number of extra individual add-ons, so I'll be lucky if it's even March for me.

i gots questions regarding painting...
first thing that comes to mind right now, if i handle these things with my greasy fingers for awhile before deciding to paint them, should i dip them in a vat of acid or something before attempting to paint?
second, what kind of brushes and paints etc. would i need? if you could provide links to the exact brushes and paints, that would be great.
P.S. lord inar - i would not be so quick to count yourself out of a march delivery date. if i were in charge of this stuff, i would ship to the highest pledgers first. if your paints, cases, etc. were part of the pledge, that would move you up in line in my book.

Yeah, but they specifically said they were doing the "easy" ones first! As to the minis themselves, I have heard that they take paint much better than other plastic minis and don't need to be primed. If you think they got dirty, then yeah you could wash them in soapy water first. I use all the different companies acrylic paints, GW, Reaper, Vallejo are the big ones. I just buy what I need if I see it and/or it's on sale! There are lots of places that can give you better advice on what paints to get, but I suggest checking out this site: www.how-to-paint-miniatures.com/miniature_painting_materials_cost_guide.htmlIt looks like it's geared a little more to the "recreational" minis painters like us than some of the more high-end sites. I'd add to their list though that a few different greens (straight, brownish and bluish) are nice because you'll probably use them a lot. I'd also get a metallics set (copper, silver and gold) pretty early since they make great accents. A few "finishers" like a couple of washes (I use Black, brown and blue washes) and a Matte Coat when they're done really are helpful to give them depth and protect them. As to brushes, I'm no competition painter and my kids are really harsh on them, so I just buy small ones at Hobby Lobby. Sometimes I use a toothpick for fine detail. I took a painting class and learned how to make a nice palette. Get a small tray (I use sushi trays from the supermarket) and fold a paper towel so it just fits. Add enough water until it gets good and wet (but not over the top of the paper towel) then cut a piece of parchment paper (not wax paper) to fit and place it on the paper towel. It'll probably curl so turn it over and gently smooth it over until it lays flat. You can then mix/thin paints on the paper palette and they dry out much more slowly. If you use something with a tight fitting lid like a sushi tray, it has the added benefit that you can put the lid on it and come back to it a little later (I've even waited days, but the paints start to separate then) without it drying too much. Finally, I can't stress enough the utility of a good light (especially for us 40 visually challenged types!) The two main caveats I've heard about plastic minis (of which I've painted some but not too many) are: 1) They don't "feel" as substantial as metal minis, which is primarily a judgement call, but significant and 2) They are harder to "strip and repaint" if you wholesale change your mind how a mini should look. On the good side, theses minis are supposed to be much more resistant to breakage, being able to bend slightly, but not too much that the paint cracks off. Hope this helps some! - Marc

man, that sounds like it was chock full of excellent advise for a beginner. but, good lord, it sounds complicated, scary, and a general PITA to me. i appreciate your efforts, sir. you will definitely get first crack at my minis if i decide they aren't for me (and if you want them). imagine a wookie trying to paint minis... wookie mess-up paint! wookie mad! wookie smash everything! wookie throw paint everywhere! wookie howl in rage! wookie wimper; feel stupid

...and a general PITA to me. i appreciate your efforts, sir. you will definitely get first crack at my minis if i decide they aren't for me (and if you want them). The only thing thing that is a PITA for me is setting up and putting away, since I don't have a dedicated space. Really, the palette takes about 1 minute to prep, and we're talking about tops 15 paints and few brushes ~$45 retail + $5 for the sushi!) to get started. I think painting minis is highly relaxing when you just go with the flow and enjoy it. One more thing that helps A LOT. If you see a mistake when painting a mini, hold it arm's length away and look at it. If you still see the mistake, fix it, otherwise forget about it! I'll give encouragement as long as it takes to make you a painter yet!
