"There is a lost lore, young Aconitus," your uncle Tros had said to you. He was one of the Circle of Elders from your community. "A lore that existed in a commune that once practised where Redpoint now stands. Now there is stone and filth by the great water there, but there may yet be an echo of that lore. I understand there are some small preserves of forest in that city.
"You follow your innate nature on this journey, but mayhap you can restore something as well. Inspect these parks when you arrive...try to see if there is anything of the Old Faith still extant."
Tros' words echoed in your mind often during the journey. You fell into a group of pilgrims close to the city, and with them you pass under the main gates.
Your natural senses are stung by the urban noises and stenches and the lack of space between the bodies. A momentary panic wells in you as if you are trapped in a living tomb...but it subsides.
No one seems to spare you a glance, and this is a bit comforting. The incredible diversity of people around you is also welcoming.
An elf in a grey cloak catches your eye; he is leaning against one wall, watching those passing by. He is now watching you, and seems to recognize something in your attire or your bearing. he nods at you, then beckons you you to him.
[You may go to him, or ignore him - if the latter, state where you intend to go or what you are looking for.]

[OOC: I forgot to reply to the first part!] Aconitus holds his uncle's hand as he talks to him. "I know dear uncle you feel my path is not the true way, but believe me when I say that my heart will always be with the woods and nature. I feel my true calling may be as a liaison between those of the wood and those of the city, and this trip will help. Now that being said, I am disheartened to learn that there is so little nature left in Redpoint. Is there anything in particular about the parks that you wish me to uncover, or will I just know it when I'm there. I worry that the distractions of the area may crowd out any emanations I may detect."

"As you know I have never been there, or any city, so I do not know how they feel. q think you are right that the crowd will impair your senses for the natural. "Yet I feel that if there is anything left there, you will feel it, if you are in the right place." He clasps your shoulder. "Good luck, nephew, and come back to us a wiser man."

Aconitus acknowledges the elf as well and goes over to him, seeing no reason to avoid a potentially friendly. "Greetings" he says in Elvish, He smiles. "You speak the true tongue? You stood out to me from the crowd; I see why. You are from far away - Veraith, perhaps? I know a few isolated communities of humans there that work with my kin." He extends his hand. "I am Voth. Long ago I was born in Veraith, now I range west of here, along the Seawatch Mountains. I am here to speak with an old friend. Mayhap I have made a new one. "What is your name, and what is your purpose - should you wish to share it?"

Aconitus takes his hand warmly. "Indeed I believe you have made a friend, and I as well. I am Aconitus of the Fargus tribe in Veraith. My purpose is no secret really. I hope to find what, if any nature remains in the city of Redpoint, the better for our people to understand the world around us and how the people of this world think. Are you or the friend you are to meet familiar with Redpoint? I would greatly enjoy relaxing with a friendly face or two after the long journey before embarking on my adventure."

Voth smiles. "I know little of the city's secrets, but my friend Tiggs may, as he lives here.
"Looking for nature in the city, eh? I fear your quest may be in vain, but we shall ask Tiggs. I hope you have no problem with goblins! Shall we go?"
[Assuming you accompany him...]
You make your way down Central Avenue, past merchants and others that come close to you. The press of bodies is a bit unnerving, but Voth has a way of guiding you past them.
Eventually you come to an intersection and turn right down Regal Street. Almost immediately you turn right again down a large alley, or maybe it would still be considered a street. There are merchants on both sides, in addition to dwellings, but there is none of the pressed bodies as on the main routes. This area seems to be kept up rather well.
Voth travels mostly in silence, looking all about as he walks. "It is as beneficial to be alert in this environment as it is in the forest," he explains.
As you travel a bit further, you see a commotion ahead of you. You hear the high pitched barking of a puppy, and a girl crying. Then you see a large, angry man in a stained apron with the yapping puppy under one arm, being followed by the crying child. He is coming toward you.
"Save my puppy!" the girl is cry-screaming.
"Yer damn mutt barks all day, all night over me head! There is no peace in my bakery for me or my customers! Yer parents won't do nuthin', so I will!"
None of the others in the street make any move to interfere with the big man. Voth stops and wathes the approaching man and child.
[You may let them pass or intervene in some way.]

"I have no quarrel with goblins, although I will admit that I am unfamiliar with their ways and hope I do not insult your friend by my ignorance."
----
"I've seen this before" Aconitus briefly steps away from Voth to not involve him. "Good sir, a moment." He holds up his hands in a non-menacing gesture. "She is just a little girl and probably doesn't know how to make a wolf-pup quiet in the night." He looks around at the commotion and claustrophobic press of humanity."...and her parents might not either." he says more quietly. "If you give me just a few minutes to provide instruction for the little girl, I believe that the wolf-pup will quickly learn to be quiet at night and become valuable to her living-home and your baking-home, by becoming a good protector. May I?"

The big man is initially angry at your intruding into the situation. He is prepared to shove you aside, but several of the other people nearby have started to gather closer, perhaps emboldened by your action. The girl looks up at the man and pleads, "Please! Please! Let him try! Don't take my puppy!"
The man looks around again before saying, "Well, if you can silence this mutt without killing it, fine." He dumps the pup in your arms before turning back and returning the way he came.
The girl looks up at you. "Can you really help, sir?"

3d6 → [6,4,1] = (11) Need an 11 or less invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3901761/Whew! just made it! Aconitus leans down to talk to the little girl. "What is your name?" he asks her. After she answers, he says, "This fine fellow looks like he'll make a fine watch-wolf;" as he hold the pup in his arms. "what you need to do first and foremost is to make sure he's been fed, hopefully with something rich like milk, and allowed to go out so he doesn't have a reason to wake you up." While he's talking Aconitus is also stroking the back of the pup's neck, calming it down. "Now this is the other part, you need to rub the back of his neck like this. This will remind him of the way his mother used to lick him to sleep when he was a baby, and he'll be right out." Aconitus stands up and watches the little girl try until the pup is looking sleepy, then he says, "Finally, take the pup for frequent walks and make sure it gets to know everybody well, so he only repsonds when a stranger comes near the house. Now where is the bakery so I could come back in a few days to see how it's going?"

The pup responds to you, and the girl is thrilled. "Thank you, oh, thank you!" She points down the street in the direction you are heading. "Dolph's bakery is six or seven doors down on the left, under the sign of a big loaf of bread. We live upstairs, but my parents are not home now. Please come by and see us one night for dinner!" She carefully picks up the pup and trots back to her house, waving at you.
Voth puts his hand on your shoulder. "Well done, my friend. Do you want to see the baker now, or are you ready to see Tiggs?"
[You gain a karma point.]

"I will come by for dinner some time soon." Aconitus waves and mentally collects a few landmarks so he doesn't forget where the bakery is.
He then turns to Voth, "Hmm, while I am hungry and a hearty warm bread sounds appealing, I do not wish to delay your meeting any further."

The street you are on doglegs to the right and then left, and then narrows considerably. The people here are fewer, and a little more desparate-looking, but Voth seems unconcerned.
You step into a doorway on your left and enter an old hall. There are some stairs heading up, and you follow the elf up these. You are struck by the dingy odor here. At the top is another hallway, and at the second door on the left, Voth knocks. A slender goblin woman, as tall as a human and with violet eyes, opens and smiles at Voth.
"You are two days late. Tiggs grows bored." She sees you and bows, long emerald hair dipping. "I am Verella, Tiggs daughter. Please come in."
You enter a low-ceilinged apartment that has the comforting smell of subtle incense, like woodland perfume. There is a central room, and a few smaller off of it. A hunched goblin leans over a table, studying an old scroll. he looks up with reumy eyes.
"Voth, long friend. And a companion. I had a feeling you would be accompanied..."
"A very recent aquaintance, Tiggs. This is Aconitus, a druid, I believe, from Veraith. He seeks...well, I'll let him tell you."
Tiggs looks at you kindly. His daughter sits nearby.

"Greetings, kind Tiggs," Aconitus bows slightly, "Thank you for welcoming me to your living-home. I am Aconitus of the Fargus tribe in Veraith. I am searching for what elements of nature may remains in Redpoint, so we may understand better how travelers from cities such as yours who come to Veraith may be in their consideration of the natural world. We can't expect respect and understanding of the trees if no one has seen any for years!"

"Interesting," Tiggs says as he scratches his jaw. "There are certainly some trees in the city, mostly confined to the parks and the estates of the wealthy behind the palace. There are some scatter4ed among the ragged buildings fronting the mudflats to the north of the city. There are even some remaining pockets of the natural world in the sewers, believe it or not.
"I do not how you intend to detect these elements, whether you have a certain natural sense or not. I suggest you go to the Park of the Old Gods, in the Common Quarter. Not the largest of the parks, but the densest of the concentrations of trees. I sometimes feel very moved when I visit it at sunset.
"Should you wish, you may remain here until then. Voth and I have matters to discuss, but he or my daughter might accompany you there afterwards.
"Or you might elect to go now, to see it in daylight first. It is easy to find. Whatever you decide to do, I will give you directions."
