Hi all, just had a random memory spark. Is anyone on here familiar with the old Commodore Amiga and/or a Shareware game called MechForce? I boxed mine up years ago. I recently went on on an archeological dig for something totally unrelated among my packed up, but not discarded items and something must have triggered that memory a couple of hours later. I wouldn't mind playing it again. Does anyone remember the game? Better yet, does anyone know if it was ported to run on the PC?

I don't know much about the Amiga and nothing about this game although I do bump into Amiga info from time to time during my internet travels. I googled up this PC remake. Not sure if it is fully functional... sourceforge.net/projects/mechfight/Also, there are a few Amiga emulators out there. Emulators are programs that emulate other hardware and allow you to run software written for the other hardware. I've never fired up an Amiga emulator but I frequently play classic/retro games like Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario Brothers, etc. using emulators of the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Gameboy Advanced consoles. Here is a link to what the internet seems to regard as the best Amiga emulator... fs-uae.net/

Thanks, I'll have to give it the emulator a shot when I get the chance. I'd also probably have to pick up a 3 1/2" floppy drive for the PC unless I happen to have one among my "forgotten treasures."
I also stumbled across the sourceforge info. When I looked into the site, it appears that a couple of years ago they had some major issues with malware. They said that they changed owners in 2016 and cleaned things up. According to a reviewer on safeweb.norton.com he spent hours trying to remove malware from a download 3-4 months ago.

Yes, I do recall sourceforge got hacked or something a couple of years ago. I have a feeling that the reviewer didn't pay attention to the installation screens. Most things these days will install something else as well if you just click Next, Next, Next... and don't read the screens. Usually there will be checkboxes to opt in/out of the "extra" software installation. Sometimes they get real tricky and instead of checkboxes or 'Next' you get a long paragraph of text saying whet it's going to install and the button that would normally say 'Next' says 'Install' instead. Click 'Cancel' on those and the main software installs.
I download stuff from sourceforge frequently and the only time i've had a problem was the first time i encountered that 'tricky EULA' described above. Those are the types of things your antivirus most likely won't protect you from either.
However, I would go the emulator route as well (and hoped you would too). You'll get more nostalgia bang that way and you'll be ready to play any other Amiga games you might have a memory spark about. Also, at most, you'd only have to "install" one program on your PC - the emulator itself - instead of installing a bunch of different games. Sometimes, you don't even need to install the emulator. You just unzip it and run it. I love software like that.
