So, something I've seen a lot of people complain about in other places is the DX penalty of armor. Here's a crazy idea: Let armor have an ST penalty in addition to the DX penalty so you can slightly lower the DX penalty. The ST penalty DOES NOT factor into how many hits you can take or your 'saving rolls'. It DOES affect what weapon you can effectively wield, climbing, swimming, etc. If you use some sort of crude encumbrance system like mine (ST score equals how many things you can carry around), it affects that too.
Armor (Hits Stopped; -ST/-DX) cloth (1; 0/1) leather (2; 0/2) segmented (3; 0/3) (cost$ x2 chainmail) chainmail (3; 1/3) half-plate (4; 2/3) plate (5; 2/4)
I'm sure those numbers need to be tweaked a little but you get the idea.
