Reynaldo and Rrowullh lie close to the ground, and the approaching man and elf, though looking around, do not see them. The man says, "No sign of those fairies. Guess their magic isn't that great after all. I doubt they'd let us do this if they could stop it."
The two pause and turn to look at the fires. The elf speaks up. "We will have to quench these before they get out of hand. No point in burning the cavern down. All we need is the entrance to the grotto, and it is somewhere near this patch of reapercap mushrooms."
"Aye. Then we get the damn shield, and whatever else we can, and get out of these dreary caves."
The elf says, "As long as we show respect to our ancestors, you may take what you wish."
The man snorts. "Respect. They've been dead, what, 5,000 years?"
"Closer to 8,000. And that is but a few generations for my race. So, yes, respect. Remember the terms of your contract."
"OK, OK. Anyway, let's tell Laeden to put these out. We'll search, and then rest. I am weary."
The pair move off, returning the way they came, still looking about them.

The rest of the party goes to ground, but it is difficult to know exactly where to hide, as there is no real trail. But Mundy points out where the snacas travelled before, so if they return the same way, you will be in a good spot for ambush. The hissing gets louder, and though it is difficult to guage in the dense growth, it seems perhaps they are 10 yards away and on the axis Mundy pointed out. Then the hissing stops. Have you been detected, or did they just notice the fire-glow, or... Suddenly you are blind! The world is plunged in impenetrable blackness! Shadout knows that Shadow spells have been cast, one powerful one or multiple smaller ones, to encompass the party. That means that at least one, but probably more, of this party of snacas are mages. And they must have detected you somehow... Now that the tables have been turned on the party, you must act quickly! [That was the surprise round. Now the snacas act on their Turn 1. I am keeping this first round a bit of a mystery, as you do not see your enemy. But on this turn there are two Fire-3 spells cast into the unknown Shadow spells: successfully! invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3633130/Now the Shadow area is larger than the Fire-3 spells, so I will use random selection to determine who gets hit: d6 for each of the 7 characters, 4+ means hit by Fire (2 pts damage, armor NA) Khan:y Mundy:y Tembo:y Enyeto:n Shadout:n Harzak:n Mulherrin:y invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3633136/OK - you are in Shadow and there is magic fire about you - those who are damaged by the fire MUST move or take another 2 hits; the others do not have to move. Post your PLAYER TURN 1 actions!]

Enyeto tries to move 2 hexes perpendicular to the direction the snacas were coming from.
Shadout puts his back to a mushroom stalk. Scanning for any indication of snaca movement.

Trying his best to suppress a snarl of surprise and pain, Khanmahtt tries to move at right angles to the snaca's trail.
(If a half move will get him out of the shadow spell he'll do that, but he'll go up to his full move if that's what it takes to get out. Assuming he does make it out this turn and has movement points left, what does he see? If an obvious foe is there and can be attacked this turn he will. If obvious foe that can't be attacked this turn, he'll close the distance using cover as best he can, or will close the distance by keeping close to the shadow edge in that order. )

[Moving through the Shadow hexes, it is possible to enter another Fire hex - i rolled a d6, on a 1 you guys get burned; both Enyeto and Khan avoid the Fire: invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3636669/I'll do an official Turn recap after Marc posts. For now...] Enyeto moves ten feet, but is still in Shadow. He senses movement near him, but his other senses tell him it is his friend, Khan. Shadout steadies himself against a giat mushroom, but detects nothing else in the darkness. He does hear many snacas hissing loudly. Khan moves through the Shadow and Fire. Suddenly he is out of the darkness [on his last movement point] and he spies numerous snacas moving among the mushrooms, half-obscured by the growth, but perhaps a dozen, maybe more. They are approaching the en-Shadowed party... [If you want, Chris, Khan can throw his spear, but he cannot see any one target clearly yet and so the stalks are difficult to throw through - 4/DX. Alternatively you can take your action and communicate what you see to the others.]

If this is still turn 1, could khan attack normal on turn 2, or would he have to charge? Are the advancing snacas headed his way, or are they converging on the shadow hexes?)

[This is the end of your turn 1, when you take an action, if you are going to. Your turn 2 action will be as it usually is - this has no bearing on it. The snacas get heir turn 2 before you, though. As stated above, the snacas are heading toward the shadowed hexes. The nearest are maybe 25 feet away. They will probably see you, as you can see them.]

Khanmahtt calls into the darkness in a load stage whisper, "Inyaytoh, tell the others, there are at least a dozen snakes coming to the dark and they are very close. Unless ahr frrends can can see and fight in that dark they should leave now!"

Hi guys, I'll be catching up on these things in a bit. Instead of my usual globetrotting and keeping busy with other life things, life decided to take matters into its own hands and slow me down whether I wanted to or not! It probably happened Wednesday night, and I didn't go in to the doctor until Thursday morning, but it turned out I had a heart attack and they put four stents put in my arteries Thursday night! I'm back home now and not as slow as I thought I'd be, but I still need to take it easy.
So, consider this everyone's public service announcement to get yourselves checked out so you don't accidentally find things out the hard way like I did!

Enyeto hears Khan's plea. "Shadout move to me quickly." Enyeto starts moving toward Khan's voice.
Shadout hearing the call to bug out. Moves in the direction of Enyeto's voice.

Marc,
I am so glad you got it checked out, my friend. I take it that the prognosis is good for a full recovery? As Mike said, very scary stuff. Take care of yourself first - we'll be here.

OK, that is cool. We'll pick up next Tuesday.
We are pretty close to the climax of the adventure, so we'll keep a tighter pace going from then on, provided that is good for all.
Get Well, Marc! Have fun storming the castle, Chris! Happy Birthday, Mike!

I'm doing much better, but yeah, I guess the old denial tactic didn't work out as planned!
But yeah, Tuesday sounds good to me!
