maybe even have an avalanche, mud-slide, rock-slide, or fallen trees block the passage back. at the end of the adventure, players can return because the path has been cleared by the locals. if player insist on trying to climb over the obstructions, make the climbing checks really difficult and failure really damaging. if they insist on trying to detour, use a fake/hidden GM roll to get them lost. Whenever they pass 3/IQ (possibly +Tracking) they get 'un-lost' and find themselves at the next encounter (where they should be going).
(i suppose flooding could be another obstacle)

i guess these obstacles, forced lostness, etc. is 'rail-roading'. i don't have a problem with 'rail-roading'. i think it was used on me quite a bit in olden days. i would figure out what was really going on but whining and complaining didn't remove the obstacles i would actually love to hear some other 'rail-roading' ideas/obstacles. another one i've though of is forest fires LOL

LOL i'm having some good memories... GM: "no, ewookie. you can't do that." ewookie: "but but but..." GM: "a giant centipede emerges from the earth beneath your feet, swallowing you whole. you are dead." ewookie: "but if the rest of the party kills him, they can cut his stomach open and save me..." GM: "a dragon swoops down and incinerates the giant centipede. you are dead." ewookie: but but the centipedes outer-shell and internal flesh and organs protected me from the flames." GM: "you hear a sudden clap of thunder then a roar that grows louder just before a large meteor falls on the centipede and pulverizes it and everything within it." ewookie: man, that was fun!

maybe one 3/ST check per 6hrs of sleep to regain 1 ST per 6hrs of sleep? I'm coming really late to this discussion, but I really like this idea better, though I'd say "six hours of uninterrupted sleep" per Bizarrojoe's comment on resting in a less safe area. Basically rolling for ST recovery every hour seems way excessive to me (let's say your character has 12ST as his baseline, and takes six points of ST as wounds during a particularly savage encounter -- which is HALF of his total ST! -- and effectively you're letting him at least potentially recover all six wounds naturally after a six hour nap. Having actually BEEN wounded (and not that severely), I can tell you it didn't happen that way! Hell, I've had sprains that took a couple of weeks to heal up!). I can see a six hour nap recovering most or all of your fatigue, but healing wounds? Not so much. Especially if you are plunged right back into action again. This way, you at least have a more reasonable recovery time (and it may take longer than six days since you are rolling 3/ST to see if you get ANY healing. The only way I'd say the one ST point recovery is automatic is if the injured person was in a completely safe area (say an inn or personal lodgings), not doing anything whatsoever other than resting, sleeping, and eating, and under the active care of a Physicker with his equipment. Mind you, that's still a pretty miraculous recovery rate, but these folks ARE heroes after all! Obviously, magical healing wouldn't be restricted by these guidelines....

Hi all,
Does the "huge carrion beast" from encounter 202 get two attacks? it doesn't really say, but what it says is "bite 2d6 and pass 3/ST or take 1 FT (from fever), and flailing arms d6+2". So I am not sure if I should give it multiple attacks. It seems possible.
