Aloha Friday all!
I have a question about the Leadership skill
The text says it gives +1 to an IQ check for another character.
1) Does the leader have to pass an IQ check to allow use or is it automatic?
2) What does leveling the skill do? Does Leadership +3 allow a +3 on an IQ check? Can it be used continually?
If that is how it works, this skill could easily, with a few levels, insure your group never fails any IQ check. Seems....well, very powerful.

Good afternoon, mcraun!
The exact wording of the Leadership skill is:
"Add Leadership rating to one character's check on 3/IQ."
So the character with Leadership+X must pass a 3/IQ check himself to use the skill (as specified atthe beginning of the Skills section). His Leadership skill modifies his own Check, as it normally does. If he passes his Check, he can then apply his rating (+1, +2, or +3) to another character's check. This does not have to be an IQ check for the assisted character; it can be a ST or DX check as well, including an attack roll.
It can get powerful; but the character with Leadership must pass his own check first, adding a variable. And not too many character will sink the xp into Leadership, until they have attained a pretty high amount of experience.
You could certainly start out a character with Leadership+3, but keep in mind using the skill is an action, so the leader can't do anything else (except Move) during his turn, so that limits his overall effectiveness if he intends to do that every turn.
Hope this clears it up!

Can it be used out of combat to pass non-combat checks?
The way it was worded was throwing me.

Absolutely, it can be used in or out of combat.
