Hey, all,
Hope you are well!
You may be aware that there were some changes to the xp system the last year. We were never totally happy with it originally, as it was to easy to go up in attribute points, making skills to expensive. I hated the new rule, which made attribute points to expensive over the course of a given adventure module; some of them, like Ebon Rebirth and Raid on Cygnosa, are predicated on improving your character significantly, as they are campaigns in and of themselves, and the new rule made survival in those adventures far too difficult.
So after engaging in a grappling contest (in which George had an unfair advantage, given his SEAL and martial arts background), we discovered a very satisfactory compromise.
To improve an attribute it costs five plus the desired attribute in xp.
So to raise your DX from 12 to 13, it costs (5+13) 18 points.
This has the desired effects we are looking for - slowing down attribute advancement, but not inordinately so over the course of an adventure; and making skills more attractive to acquire than they had been.
And it is still simple and relatively intuitive to boot!
The base rules have stayed the same for 15 years, so we apologize for the recent changes to the system. It arises from some long-term campaigning, which demonstrated a few tweaks were needed.
We hope you see the wisdom (well, we hope it is wisdom) in our changes!
Thanks as always for your continued support,
Bret

Oh man, I've been playing with the 2017 version of the rules.
Really digging the changes in the 2021 version, recovery rules, clarifications, all good stuff.
I did have one question/observation:
-In the "Welcome to The Arena"/"Introduction to Roleplaying" rules, it has Increasing Attributes at (Attribute + 5)
-In the 2021 Legends Of the Ancient World pdf, it has it it at (Attribute + 6).
I assume (Attribute + 6) is the new standard?

Hey, zarthas,
Yeah, Attribute+6 is the standard. The previous version you cite should have read "new attribute +5" but it got cheesed.
Glad you are liking the rules. They have been largely unchanged for 15 years, but when a change makes sense, we can do it since we don't have 50,000 Player's Handbooks to recall.
