When rolling to dodge is it a straight dex roll, including the armor modifier, or is your weapon skill added to it? I've been adding my weapon skill.

Straight up DX as modified by armor. Interesting take to add in weapon skill. I don't think anything in the rules suggest doing so, but you could certainly make a case for it in your house rules.

Just got it stuck in my head to add weapon. Lately I've been thinking about adding a separate shield skill to add when dodging. Some games make shield and even armor a second skill to aid in dodging. The way I role adding in a modifier doesn't seem to help much in dodging. The dice hate me.

The way I role adding in a modifier doesn't seem to help much in dodging. The dice hate me. This is interesting to me. I've seen this desire to create shield and armor skills very often in my TFTish travels. However, it is usually in the context of offensive maneuvers. There, it never made much sense to me. Reason: Whatever you invest in a Shield or Armor skill could instead be invested in your weapon skill and accomplish the same thing. Here, for defensive purposes, it makes a little more sense to me. However, I think I'd prefer to skip the Shield and Armor skills and have some Parry and Shield Block rules. I've had several different ideas for these over the years and I've seen several different ideas for these from others. Here are my most recent versions:

Heroes and Other Worlds inserts block as another option for combat. Essentially it's the same as dodge except you don't move into an adjacent space and you can block missle weapons.
