Hey guys,
I am going to start up a play-by-post Raid on Cygnosa game. I am still working out the fine details - specifically, whether and how to put combat on a grid, or just keep it loose and narrative-driven. In the next week or so I'll get it figured out.
I would like to recruit four players, or at least two with two characters each. We'll use Legends Core rules, along with some modifications for race and area of origin. We will use the site Invisible Castle for dice rolling.
If you are interested, post here to let me know and we'll talk about it.
If no one is interested, you can watch me run through it solitaire!

Great, Marc!
Thinking about it, I am leaning toward narrative combat more than playing it out on a hexagonal board. I was involved in a play-by-post Melee game, which was a lot of fun, but creating the board (it was done out of symbols) and the detailed movement slowed things down a bit. We played 5 or 6 fights in six months or so. There were some real life issues on the side for some players and there was some rules dissention while using Advanced Melee, but still I want to move much faster than that (and while LAW certainly plays a bit faster than Melee, it is still tactical at its heart).
Obviously since LAW is based on Melee/wizard it has a tactical feel, which is slightly at odds with the narrative style, but I would like to move things along (there are a lot of locations and combats in ROC) and make sure we finish it. But of course I want a good, enjoyable experience for the players.
If there is another way post hex boards and locations on it that is within by e-barbarian abilities I'll happily consider it, though! I might make a couple of trial posts if I can figure out how.
Anyway - 1 player so far!

I'll play.
I currently play an online traveller game Sunday Evenings and the GM uses a site called Obsidian Portal to list adventure logs etc, and a programme called gametable to do combat etc. Check the site out and look for a campaign called 'Mustered Out on Regina'.

Hey Badpixie, I did a search for gametable and came up with about 6 different sites calling themselves that. I think this the one you are referring to? gametableproj.sourceforge.net/Gametable/Home.htmlThat campaign journal is pretty cool. The big difference with that game and the one I am looking at doing, is that this one is play by post, rather than doing a meetup online at a given time. This way people who are very busy and can't carve out a chunk of time on a regular basis can still play along. We might get one post from everyone a day or two, or five posts a day just depending. It is far more laid back - and slower - than the virtual tabletop games. Here are two examples: necromancergames.yuku.com/topic/10556/The-Brawl-of-Admiral-Pikodd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=hinterlandsI would be doing things a little different than those two games. Right now I am working on saving a combat map in Paint, and moving figures/symbols on it following each turn. My computer skills are marginal - one reason I am going low tech rather than virtual tabletop route - but I think I can figure this out and make it fun for the players. Bret

OK, I created a sub-board for my game.
If anyone wants to run something similar, either a campaign or a simple, single hex-by-hex combat, let me know!

Say, Mister Frau Blucher (horses neigh),
Have you advertised the game over on the TFT boards to get more people?

Not yet, Marc. I think we need to announce these boards a little more prominently. George was going to do that with the email announcement for Thing in the Lake, but he forgot (he was leaving for two separate trips abroad at the time, and things were a bit hectic). Hopefully we will have something else to announce in the next few weeks, so he can point out the boards to all the people on the email list then.
I also have a few friends I have yet to tell about the game, who may have strong interest in participating.
Things may continue to be a bit slow until there is more awareness of the boards, and my computer situation is better.
That being said, it might be a good idea to mention it over there about the same time.

You are absolutely welcome, Taketoshi! To the boards, and to the game! It will take a little bit of time to get up to pace and get a few more players, but we are going to have a good time!

Hey, Just a quick post to say I'm online for the boards, and lookign forward to trying to play by post. . Bret, I've sent an email your way with my ideas for two characters. Take a look and let me know what you think. If I'm off base let me know, and if you have suggestions for making them better, please.

Welcome Black Nigel! What kind of characters did you have in mind?

Thanks for the welcome Lord Inar. I've really enjoyed reading through your posts on the Chapter 1 thread as well as your "Old posts" back at the DCG.com site.
I'm still running my ideas past Bret before I make it official, but put me down for a Pole Weapon with Leather and Shield user and an Archer. Seemed like your party (so far) needed that sort of skill set. (and an official Mage)
I'm an old Melee/Wizard/TFT/ITL/GURPer from Bret's junior high, high school and college days. He drew me back in to some of the early play test sessions for Island of Lost Spells, but I haven't played a lot of Legends on my own time. (as Bret dryly says, "thanks for the support, man")
So I don't have an experienced hands-on grasp on the Legends rules, mostly just using The Force and falling back on my recollections of TFT/GURPs. So I knew I didn't have the chops to play a Mage. Hack and slash with a little sneakiness, I can probably handle at this point.
When I do something boneheaded, be gentle, or at least forgiving.

Thank you, Black Nigel. I think your TFT recollections will serve you well.
My leader, Reynaldo, is likely to hang back and could be a limited archer as well, but not once the battle gets really engaged.
