The one you address shrugs. "Traps, as any experienced thief will tell you, vary greatly. A bear trap in the floor, a gas cannister behind a wall panel, an arrow trap, an illusion. All are different, are they not? There is no implement to detect them all." here his brow furrows in thought. "Those who plunder old tombs tell me a long stave is the best all-purpose probe in finding such traps. It is not wise to use your spear, as you could lose the point. We do have some 8-12 foot staves that would be good for such a purpose. Two kinds of wood; that from the surface world, at 2 silvers a stave, and that which is made from dried and hardened mushroom stalk, for 1 silver. "You might travel to every nook in the trading post, and you will not hear more accurate advice." He takes a long pull from the earth beer. "I appreciate your solid advice and thank you for this interesting beer. I will purchase the loadstone and one of your healing ointments" says Rrowullh. "I asked your counsel because I thought there might be pahrticular evils that snaca tend to set. And Dwarggs might have some device used to counter them; cutting of wires or sliding stones. Hmm... the stahfves you suggest might well be best, but would be hard to carry; and Obvious. Before - I have seen, metal stahfves which can be taken apart and packed away. Do you have any such?" If the dwargg offers nothing further, Rrowullh will settle his bill, and then the two Tigrans will head over to Vempoor's.

Shadout nods toward the dwargg. "I thank you." "Enyeto, let us see what Vempoor's has to offer." Enyeto follows the mage but stays a step behind.

As Khanmahtt approaches Vempoor's he sees Enyeto and Shadout reach the door of the establishment. Seeing the two together his ears perk up in surprise, but as he makes eye contact with the youth he gives hom a reassuring nod.

...“Tembo, you told me once that Mother Sara said you’d gain important information about our goal here. Do you have an idea where to start?" "You are quite right," Tembo answers, "but I am not sure where to start. I am leery of revealing too much to these mountain dwellers, although they do seem to hold true to their word so far."

Reynaldo looks around to see if any of the merchants look like they might be selling more than simply goods.
(BTW, I'd make a Charisma roll here, but Invisible castle is now blocked at work, so I have to wait until I go home to make rolls)

You push aside the black leather curtains and enter the dark, narrow, heavily-incensed chamber. There is a single aisle and few items on either side, but they appear to be choice.
Vempoor is a tall man of a race you are unfamiliar with. His eyes are a large, luminous yellow, and with a very prominent nose. He is talking to two dwarves as you enter; he briefly looks up and greets you as you enter.
“Welcome, strangers. Your custom is most appreciated. Look and ask, and hopefully purchase, as you will.”
Many objects defy explanation, but some appeal to you. There is a rod of healing (20 charges, each charge heals two hits; rod is useless after the last charge) for 100s. There is a caprian greatsword for 135s. There are also goblin hatchets (20s), dwargg crossbows (150s, 5 bolts/1s), a quiver of snake hide (5s), an orcish tower shield (3/2, 100s), and a black javelin (15s).
There is a set of quality lockpicks (adds one to your skill roll) for 80s. An iron flask is 15s. A guantlet of archery (adds one to your chance to hit with a bow or crossbow) is 100s. A stange shell that exudes moaning when held to your ear is 10s. There are several maps about, with varying prices.
Finally, you see several flasks of what Vempoor calls “radiation treatment." There are 10 doses, at 20s a dose.
He talks to the dwarves in low tones, but you hear him say, "I am sorry, my friends. I do not know the chant of which you speak. I do wish you luck in your search for the grotto, however."
[Lord Inar - make sure you read my email before posting!]

Reynaldo starts looking through the maps. He leans over to Tembo and in a loud whisper says, "Tembo see if any of these maps fit the description of the grotto." Tembo starts looking in earnest as well, but now Reynaldo is paying more attention to the dwarves than the maps.

Tembo starts looking in earnest as well, but now Reynaldo is paying more attention to the dwarves than the maps. You find two older maps that show the great abyss south of the trading post, and a ledge running along the rock face south of the abyss. Both show the huge mushroom cavern, but no detail and certainly no grotto. Interestingly one shows a city of kobolds in the southern portion, as well as a narrow passage to the third level in the eastern wall of the cavern. The other map shows a dwargg bridge spanning the abyss; it seems to be of more recent origin.

"How much are these maps, good sir, Vempoor is it? They're close but don't have the detail I need but I guess they'll have to do."

"How much are these maps, good sir, Vempoor is it? They're close but don't have the detail I need but I guess they'll have to do." Vempoor looks up from his conversation with the dwarves, where he seems to be telling them he is unable to answer their questions. He looks at the maps, then quickly at the dwarves, as if there is a connection. Then he says, "Unfortunately, I have no maps showing the great abyss and areas south in any greater detail. Those maps are a mere 2 silvers each. Perhaps you will gain more utility from them in study."

Khanmahtt’s eyes pass over the assembled merchandise. It lingers briefly over the Tower Shield before moving on to the “radiation treatment”. He touches nothing.
Stepping up to Shadout’s side so that he may speak quietly, he says in a whisper, “The Shahdout notices the potions, yes? That may be the thing the old goat wanted, neh? The price here seems reasonable against the profit we could balance. Should we buy many, or did the old one want only one, you think?”
Rrowullh is much more tactile and cannot help but rummage politely and carefully through the wares. He hefts the gauntlets in particular to see if they may well fit. All the while his eyes return to the lockpicks. Finally temptation is too great and he has to pick them up. “Hmm… these would do very well…” he murmurs to himself.
(Bret, as you know Rrowullh does not have the Locks skill, but has it on his 'wish list.' So he is keeping his eyes out for a teacher, and the proper tools. Without the skill, but with these tools to work with, would there be any benefit? Say roll 4DX without the plus 1? Or is it a flat out “no skill, no try?”)

If he does this, that 4/DX check without the +1 sounds reasonable until he spends the XP to tget the Locks skill.

Shadout peers down at the potions. To Khan; "He said he would buy what we could bring him." "A 10 to 1 return is a good deal." To Vempoor; "Good sir, about your radiation treatment potions. I may be interested in purchasing one. What can you tell me about them?"
Enyeto walks toward the snake skin quiver. He stares at the quiver with the wide eyes of youth.
