Hey all
New to the adventure game RPG genre as I am mostly a solo war board gamer so please be patient with me
Picked up Blood in the Dust and read the rules (I am sure they are clear to those used to this type of game, but I am fogged a bit).
Started the adventure and recorded the things I have (rations, weapons, cash etc) and even purchased a few items.
I started exploring the Smith settlement and eventually decided to bed down for the night in the vacated home...only to be alarmed by some wolves scaring my horses outside
what does : Wolves(6) ST10, DX11, IQ8; Bite d6-1 mean??
Not sure what to do...
thx for ur help
Bill

I'm new here also, and I don't own Blood in the Dust, but I think I can help.
I believe "Wolves(6) ST10, DX11, IQ8; Bite d6-1" means that you're facing a pack of six wolves. Each of them has the attributes ST10, DX11, IQ8. Each one is "armed" with the ability to bite, and each bite will do D6-1 points of damage. See the "Weapons" section of the rules. Just like "Knife" has "Damage (D)" of D6 and no heft because it's light, "Bite" has "Damage (D)" of D6-1, and no "Heft (H)" because, well, they're attached to the wolves.
I hope you have the "Animal Handler" skill.

Sorry about the confusion.
Now you must fight them. These games, although storybooks, are a series of tactical fighting encounters. So lay out your character pieces and the wolf pieces on the board, as prescribed by the encounter.
Keep in mind, any wolf sustaining 1/2 it's ST in damage will run away.

Hello, Severn, welcome to the boards!
Hopefully George's explanation of the next step makes sense. Basically, when you come to a spot in an adventure where you see enemies statted up in italics, and their locations given as "At B (or A, C, X, etc.)" it is time to set up the map and fight. The enemies go on or adjacent to the letter identified on the board. When and if you survive you go to the instruction number that is relevant. For example, "If you survive you may search the room (143) or leave to the east (025) or west (045)." So you would either search the room by turning to paragraph 143 or leave by going to one of the other two paragraphs.
Nice to see another solo wargamer here! ASL has got to be my favorite, I have played extensively face-to-face and solo. Lots of SPI stuff as well as Avalon Hill. I haven't bought any non-ASL in decades, though!
I remember reading when SPI started doing surveys of their customers, they found out nearly 70% played solo, the majority of these exclusively solo. It can be tough to find an opponent, and then it doesn't always work out. But I also enjoy playing solo.
Welcome, again!
Bret

Bret,
That was Kyllven that clarified it, not me!
