Hi people, I liked a concept in Runequest Basic magic whereby you could use more POW than the minimum necessary in order to increase the chance that the spell would break through the resistance and have effect or would be more resistant against being neutralised. A similar idea for LAW could be that, for every extra fatigue/damage point over and above the minimum for a contested spell, the number required to be rolled would be decreased by that amount, so for example, an Illusion cast with x extra Fat behind it would require a roll against disbeliever's (IQ - x). I think the basic concept is sound, but don't expect me to stand up in court and justify it, that is for individual GMs to decide. Cheers Colin

This is a nice idea, Colin. It might mess a little with the choose-how-many-dice-to-roll mechanic, but it might not. I like the flexibility this gives a spellcaster to make his spell more difficult to resist, if he absolutely must be successful. I am going to play around with this, I believe!
