just saw it. not bad. it was ok but i think it could have been better. i don't mind the questions that it left unanswered. it's other things that i think could have been done better.
anyways, the most remarkable thing about the experience is... i remember playing metroid on the nes and snes in the late 80s and early 90s and thinking..."they got these ideas from Aliens"
tonight, i watched the prequel to Aliens and found myself thinking..."they got these ideas from Metroid"
nothing wrong with that. i like it. i just found it amusing.

That's funny!
I haven't seen it yet. I have bad luck in theaters, so I may end up just waiting until this is out on dvd. Like the recent Thing remake, this is something I have to have!

I have to ask about bad luck in theaters. Kids throwing popcorn, screaming, fistfights, what's happened?

don't get me started on the Thing remake. i turned it off and returned it to redbox after 15 minutes. i think the captions said it was 1981 or 1982 yet the chick was using a tunnel microscope to look inside that wolf and listening to a walkman. i was pretty sure those things didn't exist yet in 1982 as i had never heard of walkman until the late 80s, but then again, i live in the rural south. so i did look it up and sony actually started selling walkmans in 1979. but, still...all the imagery was an unveiled ploy to 'connect' with today's generation, which is fine, but it left me wondering why they chose to make the setting the early 80s to begin with.
to me, the original Thing is still the best and still holds up very well special-effects wise.
ok, sorry, i guess i did get started. my apologies for my rant lol

Dude, every time I go into a theater, even if every other seat is available, somebody HAS to sit behind me and put their stinky-ass feet, or tap their legs against my chair, or talk to their friends throughout. And somebody ALWAYS lets fly with a SBD!

I like both, but the 1981 version is my favorite. As far as last year's remake, i gotta say I liked it a lot! It was both prequel and homage. The acting was good, I loved the shots that were direct references to Carpenter's (like the scene of them gathered outside around the burning thing), the test she came up with was pretty cool, and the way it leads directly into Carpenter's was well done. I am one of the few who felt this way, evidently! Bret

you got me. i didn't realize the 1981 version was a remake. you aren't the only person i know that liked the latest one and from what y'all have said, i guess i should give it another, fair chance. i gotta ask tho...what's a 'SBD'? in the context of 'someone always lets fly with a SBD' i'm coming up with stuff like 'seriously bad digestive-odor'...

Close! Silent But Deadly The original Thing from Another World was made in '51, maybe? Obviously didn't have the special effects, but it had James Arness as the Thing (before he became the marshall on Gunsmoke). This was in turn based on the original short story, "Who Goes There" by John W. Campbell, from 1937 I believe. Heck, this is on Wikipedia, I should look before posting...

And somebody ALWAYS lets fly with a SBD! This is why the last row in theaters is the most popular. Head for the back, the very back. I also recommend movies rated R and attending semi-late showings, 9PM or after...this avoids all the pitfalls of being in a theater with teens who think they're funny, or cool, but are really just a-holes.

interesting. where i am, the back row is the least popular...and why i always sit there. less chance of someone sitting right next to me or walking in front of me during the movie. later shows do weed out the teens. i have to recommend that also.

I got the chance to see Prometheus not too long ago, and I may be in the minority--based on what movie critics and fans of the Alien series are saying--but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Michael Fassbender in the role of David the android stole the show, and the connection made at the end to first movie in the series was satisfying. It's an origin story, but with a twist. Good flick, 8/10.

Dude, you are making me jealous! I'm not gonna see this until it is out on DVD. Glad to know you liked it. Good to see some opinions contrary to the critics. I am a huge fan of the first two films, hit or miss on the last two. But I am stoked to see this!
