TFT was the first RPG I ever played and after playing many others it's still the one I like to play the best. Anyway I was looking through your rules and like what you've done. I was wondering about Karma and Wish. Do you earn Karma/Wish points from play like XP's or do you start out with some Karma/Wish points at the start of the adventure? I'm planning on getting some college age people started on thier first table top RPG and was thinking of using your rules and anventures to do so. I really like the rules and would love to see an advance version.

Hello, Falcon,
Welcome to the boards!
Thank you for your kind words on LAW.
Karma and Wishes (and Curses!) are given out at various points of our programmed adventures, usually in response to a character's actions. If a character performs a heroic deed or roleplays (as well as you can in the context of a programmed adventure), he often gets a Karma point. For instance, finding the bones of a ghost and burying them, laying his soul to rest, might gain a karma point. Doing a service to a powerful dragon might acquire a Wish for the character(s). Turning your back on a needy, heart-broken widow might earn you a curse.
As I said, these are in the context of the adventure, and presume the characters to be of a more heroic, than amoral, nature. If you are not running one of our programmed adventures, then use the examples in those or this brief guide in assigning them.
Wishes are very powerful and there is never more than one, if any, in an adventure. There might be a half-dozen opportunities to acquire Karma, and two or three to get Curses; this would be over the course of 20-30+ encounters.
Hope this helps! Welcome again!
Bret

Thanks Bret for the info so quick. I'll have more questions when I have more time, lunch break is only so long. Thanks once again. Craig

Hi Falcon and Bret, What I like about XP, Karma and Wishes in LAW is that there a clear delineation between their powers. A Wish can make a die roll succesful, Karma can allow a re-roll, XP is only usable to increase skills. There is a definite hierarchy - Wish >= Karma >= XP. You can trade them down but you can't trade them up. Basically, in the DCG adventures, if you do something good you get Karma, if you do something very good you get Wishes. If you do bad things you get Cursed. Your reward for good deeds is tangible, as is your punishment for bad! Cheers Colin
