What's the recommended point total for Ebon Rebirth characters? And is there any new twist, approach or something that marks this one out from other modules? Not that there has to be great originality, I'm just wondering what the vision was.

What's the recommended point total for Ebon Rebirth characters? Hello darkpumpkin, I was involved in the playtest for ER. At that time it was for four 32-point characters, 4 skill levels, with up to 2 in any one skill. Characters also begin play with no more than two weapons, armor up to chainmail, and 100 silver pieces. Some of that may have changed in the final edits. So, it was definitely for beginning/novice level characters unless that was altered. I'm afraid I can't answer the second part of your question. I don't own all the modules, so I can't say what may be different or new.

Hey darkpumpkin,
Vlad is correct, 4 32 point/4 skill characters, up to two levels in any one skill. I haven't received my hard copy yet, so I hope that wasn't lost somehow!
As far as differences, there is no immediate threat as in other modules. It is more of a wide open, explore what you want to (hexcrawlish) approach, with a background plot that gradually comes into focus as you complete quests, and gather information.
So it is a bit of experiment - I was a little worried that its openness and apparent lack of direction might bore people, but I also wanted to do a bit of a beginning, In-search-of-adventure kind of feel. In other advetures, you must recover the blackstone, or stop the worm god, or close the gates to the Underworld; here, you are just trying to survive. Feedback was actually pretty good, and lots of tweaks were made based on that - in particular Vlad's excellent comments.

I just got it in the mail two days ago and it looks great, particularly the map! I think I have game envy. The USPS tracker states "12/27/14 3:47 AM FORT WORTH, TX 76161 Departed USPS Facility". I live less than 30 miles from that facility, and just over 3 miles from my Post Office and still haven't received it.... If I don't receive it tomorrow I might launch She Who Must Not Be Crossed at the USPS. They have no idea.... Edit 1/8/2015 They must have gotten an idea. I received my game today. Beautiful, as always. Great job, guys!

Wow! The best game yet from DCG! Been playing it for weeks. It can be done with 32 pt characters, but I prefer to take 34 pt characters and role play more so i don't have every fighter with a IQ of 8. It feels like a Cross between Grailquest and Deathtest from the original TFT,very high praise since these are my favorite games. Run of the mill encounters you out number and the tend to have a DX of 9 so they seldom hit. The game has several bosses and they proved to be quite dangerous. I am goi g through healing portion by the gallon and glad the it is available in town, for a price.
I also like that you had hire people, much like Grailquest. There is also some kick ass wizards to fight in the IQ 12 to 15 range that make the game a challenge. All together, one of the best yet, highly recommend!

Hey, bluelens,
Thanks for the high praise! The adventure being structured differently from our others, I was uncertain how people would play it, much less enjoy it. It makes me very happy to read this!

I got Ebon Rebirth today. I haven't read through it yet but I saw the appendices and I am glad to see price lists and a sample party. The counter sheet is quite nice.
Regards, Ed
