I saw the e-mail today about Battle of the Bulge. Is it a 2 player game? If so is there any hidden information that would preclude it from being played solo? Scenario based? Components? I am very curious.
Nothing hidden. Counters are one sided and maybe only flipped to mark that they've defensively fired (Return Fire or Following (Op) Fire). There are six scenarios included with the game. Just 7 pages of rules. Looks like a neat little system for a great price!

Just found this review for Battle of the Bulge, by Marco (marcowargamer). This makes me even more excited about my recent purchase with Dark City Games! Can't wait to check out those RPGs in the future also!

I got in Battle of the Bulge today. This is the first purchase I made with Dark City Games and I can tell you it won't be the last! I would say that their first entry into their new series: Combat Boots, is very successful at what it aims to do. It's a short and sweet war game depicting tense situations from this infamous battle. The full game is played over the course of six scenarios that can be played back to back. So far we've gone through 2 of those six and the German forces are winning thus far... It's very exciting to see how this will pan out!
Let's talk about what you get when you plop down the extremely reasonable $12.95 to purchase this game.
Components: 1 full color 16 1/2" x 10 3/4" glossy paper map that depicts different terrain (Open, Roads, Buildings, Forest/Woods, Rough Ground and Rivers) and objectives (such as villages). 1 16 page book. Pages 1-8 cover the rules and pages 8-16 are your 6 scenarios, optional rules for your scenarios, a nice detailed glossary that gives very detailed explanations to terms and ordnance used throughout this game and Designers Notes!!! I have to say that I'm not used to seeing a section in rule books where the designer walks you through a detailed explanation as to why things are the way they are in the game. I'm heavily interested in game design myself, so having the opportunity to read in detail the thinking behind this is very valuable to me. I wish that more designers would include a section like this in their rules! Also, I got to learn a lot about the designer in the process! George, thank you so very much for your military service and it was great to hear about it through the glossary and Design Notes! 1 counter sheet with 44 counters ready to cut out and play. These are your German and American infantry, armor, artillery, and aircraft.
The rules are fantastic and I was up and running in no time! The combat system is simple but has just the right amount of crunch. It is not what I'd consider to be complex, nor is it what I'd consider to be extremely lightweight. It sure is tense and fun though!
This game definitely strikes a good balance between simplicity and tactics! Highly recommended!
