I'm considering writing a new fantasy adventure, but I wanted some feedback. I envision the players choosing from about half a dozen different characters, each with their own victory conditions, depending on which pre-rolled character you choose as your primary character (other characters will round out the party). The adventures will largely take place on the shore/islands/open sea of an ocean, meaning there will be some island encounters (sort of like in Upon the Wind with floating islands).
Do you think it is possible to have an island-exploration component without duplicating UTW? And what about a title? I'm thinking Fantastic Voyages, but I was told by a friend that people will be expecting a shrink ray.
Thanks for any input!
-Nick

Depending on the victory conditions, how about "1 if by Land, 2 if by Sea."

Thanks for the idea. I was thinking more like Lathan's Gold (D&D Expert Set solo adventure).

I know you'll round out the party with character creation, but I have never been a fan of forcing players to choose from among pregens. It seems like you could have a "central" character choose instead from among specific backgrounds, that incorporate them into the story you are writing. Unless I am missing something? The island-hopping set-up sounds pretty close to Oracle's Breath, as much as UTW. It can certainly be done and made to be different - all depends on the plot - but you might want to review that adventure. Bret

If I'm understanding you, the (player-created) characters can choose from several missions. That could work, especially if there were mission-appropriate pregen NPCs. Like, for example, the (again, player-created) characters can join the Dwarf on his mission, or could hire themselves out to collect monster body parts for the stay-at-home mage who will reward them at the end of the game, based on what specimens they bring him. An alternative to taking the Dwarf as a pregen NPC would be to accept some clues that the dwarves have unearthed to find the lost clan location, hired out in the same manner as the mage (i.e., the Dwarves will let the party to all the leg work and then pay them handsomely from their coffers).
Is that what you're suggesting?
I certainly will take a look at Oracle's Breath.
EDIT: I am still asking for feedback on the name of the adventure; my working title is Fantastic Voyages.

If you're looking for a nautical title, how about "Anchors Away?" "Ride the Tide?" (Or for a taste of Alabama, "Roll Tide.") I could come up with plenty more. ;-)

Sorry, Nick, about the late answer. Yeah, this is what I was suggesting, and your ideas sound pretty cool.

Great! As soon as I read through the Oracle's Breath I'll start compiling the adventure.
