In legendsone.pdf on p2 it says (essentially) Alex (ST14) grapples a foe (ST12). Alex's rolls total 12, his foes total 15. So Alex wins.
But 14+12 is 26, and 12+15 is 27, so shouldn't his foe win?

To succeed, you have to roll equal to or under your stat. If both people roll equal to or under, then the higher roll wins. In the example above, the foe rolled higher than his stat of 12, so he automatically fails, even though his roll of 15 was higher than Alex's roll of 12. Alex rolled within his success range, so he wins the grapple. You do NOT add your roll to your stat; that game mechanic is present in the Fighting Fantasy books, but these rules are not the same thing!
