Consider a character who speaks 3 languages - Elvish, Sorceror's Tongue and Common Tongue. How many Literacy skills are needed to read/write all 3? The alternative interpretations I can think are 1) Acquiring Literacy+1 gives access to all 3 known, spoken languages. 2) Acquiring Literacy+1 gives access to a specified language ie Literate+1 in Elvish. Adding a separate Literacy+1 in Sorceror's Tongue would have no effect on ones ability to read Elvish. 3) Acquiring multiple Literacy levels allows a character to read/write 1 known spoken language per level, but the skill level in each language would be at the total Literacy level. So if this character had Literacy+2 and chose Elvish and Sorceror's Tongue, he would be considered Lit+2 in both, but could not read Common Tongue. Adding a further Literacy level would mean he was Lit+3 in all 3 languages he can speak. I can see arguments for and against all three interpretations; it seems to be a trade-off (as usual) between playability and realism, which I suppose comes down to Gamesmaster's fiat - not a bad thing ,in my view. All the best Colin
