Reynaldo sidles over to Shadout. "Don't look now, but I do believe that Dwargg mage seems to have the evil eye out for me. Do you mind keeping an eye on him and alerting me if he tries something underhanded?"
Reynaldo will hold off for this round; he doesn't want to risk being accused of cheating.

I will say it was blacknigel's idea for the leadership bonus (credit where credit is due!) Who'd notice a little extra cheering? Oops! Somebody did! [Indeed!] While Reynaldo watches Khan fight mightily against Kludd, he cannot help but glance at the tattooed dwargg. The man's eyes still burn at him intensely; but then he leans over and says something to a hunch-backed dwargg beside him. The two turn and enter a low building before the fight concludes.

Khanmahtt repeats himself, "It is fun, eh?" louder this time, and now it is obvious the human accent is not one usually found on the Stormspeake Peninsula. "Brother! Stop playing with your prey and finish this!" Rrowullh calls out. Khanmahtt's eyes regain focus, as if from somewhere far away, and he takes deliberate aim with his next thrust... 3d6-1;1d6+2 -> [3,2,5,-1] = (9) 3d6-1;1d6+2 -> [6,2] = (8) invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3415859/The spearpoint catches the dwargg fully, and parts the links of mail.

Kludd's yowl changes to a gurgle as blood gouts from his mouth. He sinks to the ground, battleaxe slipping from nerveless fingers, and he slumps forward; dead.
The assembled crowd cheers and boos and laughs roughly; silver changes hands.
One of the dwarggs steps up to Reynaldo. "Well, your kitten can fight! Kludd was no slouch. So you have your passage fair and square. Loot the corpse, then continue to the trading post, if that is your destination." He looks at Khan, heaving with exertion. "If you continue to Blackledge, that one would be popular in the arenas. he has a certain style." He shruggs, then turns to the others. "Back to work, slugs!"
[You may loot Kludd's corpse. Besides the battleaxe and chainmail and tattered cape, there is a purse with 45 silvers and a belt with fine brass studs. Lastly there is a dagger. none of the items are magical, though they are quality and may fetch a decent price.]

"Khanmahtt, you have of course first choice, but I feel we should take what we want and move on quickly. Do you wish the battleaxe? If not I have something in mind."

(Bret ignore this post and take my modified one after the conversation with Reynaldo)
Having learned something of Dwargg culture and values from this exchange, "Send my greeting to your ancestors. May the stench of your mother envelop you in the afterworld."
Khanmahtt kneels to collects the purse, belt and dagger before taking the Battle Axe and rising. Addressing the crowd that remains, "The clink of silvurr changing paws can still be heard by these ears. Some of you have profited from my efforts. Profit enough purrhaps to do some business. Here. Now. Who here would ransom Kludd's black mail, the purrple cape or his Stenchful Axe? Their reek has increased this day. Purrhaps there is someone who would not bear that their smells leave this mountain? Come now, who deals for them?"

(whoops, simultaneous posts, Lord Inar. What did you have in mind, before Khan challenges the crowd for business?)

"I think we may be in danger from other sources regarding this fight. I would like to appease the crowd ahead of time in case it turns ugly."

Speaking quietly to Reynaldo, "Appease how?, Through making a gift? Of what, the mail, cape and corpse? I think the Axe may have some value, and is easier to transport than the mail. What do you think, 'donate' the armor to his or other Dwargg orphans?"

"Yes, the mail sounds better. We should keep the axe. I will let you be the magnanimous one, since you did the fighting. Stress the fairness of the fight. Oh, and Khanmatt, thank you, it was a glorious fight!"

"To that one, I give 3 gifts. Kludd's corpse will remain - the death stench to add to the glory of this place. His tattered cape to be his shroud. But his mail, black and strong, I give to his tribe. May it be mended so that it one day shields his orphan or a champion of his kin. I demand only this in balance - that the tribe of Kludd never again take up arms against me, the Tigran called Khanmahtt, or any of my companions.
The Axe of Kludd will leave with me. Now. Unless any here would ransom it's value."

Enyeto runs to the his victorious friends side. He grabs Khan's right forearm raises it toward the ceiling. "This is what is done to winners in my tribe. Their hand is raised in victory."
Shadout slinks behind the crowd and starts to move toward the building the mage entered. Being careful not to draw attention to himself. (Did the Dwarggs leave the door open?)

Shadout slinks behind the crowd and starts to move toward the building the mage entered. Being careful not to draw attention to himself. (Did the Dwarggs leave the door open?) The entrance does not have a door, rather a black leater curtain that hangs loosley. Shadout casually stands by trying to listen while there is commotion about him. The conversation is in Dwargg, so the words are meaningless to him. But through surreptitious glances past the curtain, he sees the tattooed mage talking with the hunchback and a third figure, one who is not a dwargg. He is tall and human-proportioned, and covered in an ebon shroud. Shadout gets the impression that the shrouded figure may have noticed him...it is hard to tell. Then the hunchback makes for the doorway as if to leave, and Shadout slinks back to the party. The hunchback does emerge, and quickly blends into the crowd. As long as you remain, you see neither of the other figures emerge.

One dwargg steps forward, beady eyes glinting. "Not sure why you are obsessed with smells and stenches. Part of your culture? Anyway, I certainly covet that axe. I've felt its flat a few times." He holds up his purse, filled with silver...and a few gold coins. "I have made a bit of profit on your valor...perhaps i can trade this for the axe?" He counts out 6 gold coins, and 45 silvers. He slips a few remaining silvers back into his purse. "I am keeping the rest for my vile offspring. But I hope you will accept these coins as a ransom for that axe." [Gold coins are worth 10 silvers each.] No more dwarggs step forward with counteroffers. in fact most seem to be heading to the building they bore Kludd into...which you realize is the kitchen. The dwargg holds the coins to you. "Good enough for the axe, eh?"

"Your ransom price is acceptable. Done. The Axe of Kludd is yours." Khanmahtt takes the offered coins and hands the dwargg the axe.
