Well, that was brutal. Another instant classic for the Lions. Tough loss, particularly for a blown no-call. Ouch!

If the Falcons go 16-0... "I find your lack of faith - disturbing" Regards, Ed If they go 16-0 I'll...I'll...I'll do something totally unnecessary, I assure you. The 49 year body of evidence of this team screams: Be skeptical! It's been fun so far, however. I hope Julio Jones stays healthy; he's nursing a hamstring and foot injury, and looked a little out of the mix yesterday. ednote, what's the vibe up there in Nashville? Everyone liking that rookie QB? We like him. Naturally, he will need some time to settle down. We can be patient. I am happy for your Falcons.
Regards, Ed

Darkscar, I was in town the other day and came across a couple of used football games, Battle Bowl and Pigskin. I haven't had much of a chance to read through them, let alone play them. I did sneak a peek at the Pigskin rules though, they're only a couple of pages. It's a Parker Brothers game copyrighted in 1946 and 1956. There are 3 skill levels of players, Star, Second and Scrub. (Can you even refer to someone as a "Scrub" these days?) Kickoffs are from the 40 yard line. (This piece of trivia took me on for a ride on "Mr. Peabody's 'Way-back Machine.'") Field goals can only be attempted from 30 yards or less. It's designed for two players, but there are rules for solitaire play.

I'm still checking out various games, trying to find one I can "get into." I'm not into the download, print-out, and play games, I'm much more into games to buy at a store or order over the phone--I'm very old school. When you get a chance to play it, let me know how it goes--if it seems like something that will keep your interest over, say, 20 games or more.

This game is definitely old school, complete with illustrations of players wearing leather helmets.
I don't know when I'll have a chance to play it. I'm trying to finish building a garage before winter gets here.(It's getting close, already roughed in, but still need to put in the garage doors, entry doors, roof, siding and then insulate, and finish the inside of the loft. Hopefully the loft will be ready for a Super Bowl party in Feb.) That's in addition to taking care of all the critters, kids and everything else going on in life.

vladaltos, congrats on your birds victory. At least my Titans weren't humiliated this week.

Thanks, Ed
Either our defenses were great or our offenses set back the NFL 25 years, I'm not sure which. I do feel lucky to get out of there with a win. Good luck on the rest of the season.

I almost expected the Fords to leave Mayhew and Caldwell in London. I know it takes a while for different schemes to take effect, particularly a week after sacking the O Coordinator and the O lIne Coaches, but it is clear there is little talent in the O or D Lines. The issues for the whole team run deep and that is mostly Mayhew, from selection of talent and coaches.
Sometimes you gotta wonder whether the Curse on the Lions is real. But then you look at how they strike out time after time in the management and coaching department, not just loading the talent at the star positions instead of where it counts on the lines. And ultimately that goes to ownership making the wrong management choices.
No coincidence the Lions have not won a championship, and only one playoff game, since the Fords bought the team 60 years ago. Supposedly Martha Ford is going to take a more active hand in the franchise. At this point, it can't hurt, and I don't see how it will include Mayhew (and therefore caldwell, as every GM likes to get their own coach).
Kudos to the Saints for getting back to .500. That was a pretty entertaining game yesterday, unless you are a fan of defense!

I know it's got to be a painful year for Lions' fans, especially since I know more people than just darkscar predicted them to go to the playoffs. I didn't realize they were playing in London yesterday till I turned on the pre-game show, and there was no pre-game show, but the Lions-Chiefs game.
Well, the Falcons are now becoming that 8-8 team I thought they'd be after getting off to a 5-0 start. 4 turnovers in two games inside the opponents 20 is a great recipe on how to lose in the NFL. Is it just a coincidence or did their bad luck start when I made their old-school helmet my avatar? There's got to be a connection in there somewhere. I'll have to consider changing it.
The Saints are finding their stride. 52-49 regulation game. Wow. I really wish I could've seen that but had to sit through another Falcons' debacle.

It's only proper the Saints won yesterday. If we can't win on All Saint's Day, then when can we, I ask? When can we, indeed!
Needless to say, I'm glad the offense and Drew Brees had such a big day. The defense...there's some holes there. But a win is a win as they say, but I'm not expecting miracles.

Well, GM Mayhew and team President Tom Lewand got the boot today. Caldwell remains for now, and maybe for the rest of the season, but no way he is the coach next year. Things are not all his fault as he did not draft the players, but the team is playing like crap and beneath the talent they do have, so it is inevitable. I guess everyone on the team are playing for jobs here or elsewhere next year.
It will be interesting to see what they do for the GM and coach. There were rumors they went hard after Bill Cowher a few years ago as coach but he was happy being an analyst. I wonder if he'd be interested in a GM job? Or maybe they'd eye somone like Bill Polian, not great but a solid guy, to help put the franchise back on even footing (like it kinda seemed last year, but as I have seen the entirety of my life as a Lions fan, that was merely an illusion).
No clue if they will get an interim GM or make the real hire now. Not a bad time to get a real GM, as he will have 8 games to make his evaluations.

Maybe it's time for a change of ownership. Perhaps sell the team to the Ilitch, who's done well with the Red Wings and Tigers.

MFB, I have a fridge full of Bud Light with the Lions logo on it. The sad thing is that the beer's much better than the team.

For some reason it's a favorite among my wife's family. As long as I have it on hand, they prefer it and I don't have to worry about them drinking my "good" beer. So, it's a win-win for everyone.
