Hey, friends,
On December 31, I will be getting ankle surgery. I have two detached tendons and some cartilage damage. I will be laid up in bed at least 4 weeks. At that time I will not be on the internet, except spradically a few weeks after the 31st. I don't have a smartphone and home internet is dodgy, so the only time I will be on is when I come to work once or twice in January.
This means a few things:
1. Moderation will be absent for a month or so. Since we all play nice, this is not a big deal, but we do get spam attacks occasionally and I will not be able to deal with those. So please be patient. If something really nasty happens, you can reach me on my cell phone. Area code is 757. First three digits are 968. The next three digits are 951. The last digit is 4 subtracted from 10. I hope that defeats any bots lurking here!
2. I will have an opportunity to get a solid adventure written in January, since sitting on my fat butt will constitute Real Life - it cannot intrude!
There are probably other ramifications as well.
Anyway, just keeping you guys updated.
Bret

I'm doing much new construction at the ole homestead. So if you need some concrete for some orthopedic cement shoes, I might be able to spare a bag or two. Just kidding, I envision you having to wear a clunky "boot" when you're able to put any weight on it. It's not much fun having to rehab from surgery, but at least there's an objective to obtain. (Been there, done that.) Keep a positive attitude and always look on the bright side of life. Things go better that way.
Is your injury from a specific incident or just long-term wear and tear?

Hey, guys, thanks for all the well-wishes.
It is entirely possible the orthopaedic surgeon is already equipped with x-actos and flamethrowers and cement; I'll put out an emergency call if not!
Araman, this was a specific injury, my ankle turning sideways while walking down some steps. But it was not properly diagnosed and the original doctor wanted to try natural healing and then rehab. Walking around on it in the ensuing months without the proper diagnosis caused the damage to the cartilage, as I understand it.

OUCH! It sounds like it shouldn't be chronic, that's a good thing. Hopefully the doc will be able to fix it and forget it. What's the prognosis for full recovery?

Hey, Araman, definitely not chronic, and the prognosis is good. At least four weeks of total immobility, and then hopefully it is healed enough for rehab. Doc thinks everything should be fully healed and strengthened in about four months - so about the end of April. I have been dealing with the injury for longer than that, so this is good news to me!
Thanks again for everyone's concern! I know I am not the only one dealing with stuff, so I hope you are all happy and healthy heading into the holidays!

I can get hold of a Master Physicker's Kit ( Special Limited Edition) if you need one (comes with eyeshades and earplugs - essential for a stay in hospital). Hope you're happy and healthy coming OUT of the holidays! All the best Colin

Good to hear from you, Colin, I hope you are doing well, mate! I am not sure my insurance will cover the Master Physicker's Kit, I may have to settle with the OEM Physicker's kit.
Thanks for the well-wishes!

Hey Brett,
Hope it all goes well and that you don't need to run from a wild pack of Prootwaddles until you're all healed!

Thanks, guys!
Lord Inar, I am receiving a cool scooter to prop up my leg. I have no doubt I can ecxeed the 5 MPH speed barrier that Prootwaddles max out at.
Darkpumpkin, we hope so, too! Thanks!

Lucky you! I never got a cool scooter after any of my surgeries. All I ever got was a cane, crutches, walker or a (regular old) wheelchair. lol
